1. Background<\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Fase1<\/span><\/b> <\/a>is a business incubation program for Puerto Rican residents who want to transform great ideas into successful startups. Our incubator focuses on providing access to educational content on entrepreneurship and fostering <\/span>new ideas<\/span> through our business cycle, which includes specialized training, mentorship, and access to our startup community in a dynamic, high-impact environment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fase1<\/span> is a program of the <\/span>Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust <\/span><\/a>(the \u201c <\/span>Trust <\/span><\/b>\u201d), which is part of the Small Business Incubators and Accelerators (SBIA) Program, funded with federal funds from the Puerto Rico Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program, allocated for the long-term recovery of Puerto Rico following the 2017 hurricanes, administered by the Department of Housing (Housing).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Trust is a non-profit organization created to maximize Puerto Rico’s participation and job creation in the global knowledge and innovation economy by promoting investment and funding for the development of scientific and technological research. The organization manages and hosts more than a dozen initiatives ranging from grants and technical support to meetings and educational resources for researchers, entrepreneurs, farmers, investors, and other groups. <\/span>Fase1<\/span><\/b> is part of the Trust’s entrepreneurship pillar, along with Colmena66 and parallel18, among others.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each year, <\/span>50<\/span> new ideas or early-stage startups are selected through an open call to participate in the <\/span>Fase1<\/span><\/b> Intensive <\/span><\/b>incubator.<\/span><\/b> This incubator consists of a specialized 12-week curriculum to help new entrepreneurs validate their ideas and develop their minimum viable or functional products or services (MVPs) with the goal of promoting their rapid market launch. Throughout the curriculum, multiple workshops and technical training on early-stage entrepreneurship, individualized mentoring, professional services, and a <\/span>coworking space <\/span><\/i>are <\/span><\/i>offered,<\/span><\/i> among other benefits.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At Fase1, we also have a virtual entrepreneurship academy, <\/span>Fase1 <\/span><\/b>Lab,<\/span><\/b> which offers various short online educational modules, available at any time and free of charge through our platform. Our virtual academy serves as a prelude and preparation for those interested in participating in our <\/span>Intensive <\/span><\/b>incubator,<\/span><\/b> which opens its doors once a year. Everyone in our community is welcome to apply for Fase1 Intensive during the open call period, which runs from January to April each year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1742486279340{margin-bottom: 8px !important;}”]<\/p>\n

2. Main Objective<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”square-lists-01″]Fase1<\/span><\/b> exists to transform <\/span>a large number of<\/span> ideas into innovative businesses and create a foundation for successful companies in Puerto Rico. The objective of <\/span>Fase1<\/span> is for participants to develop their minimum viable product (MVP), be trained and ready to <\/span>launch their product on the market, and be able to participate in pre-acceleration and acceleration programs, such as Pre18 and Parallel18, where they can receive initial capital for the development of their <\/span>startups <\/span><\/i>.<\/span> Furthermore, <\/span>Fase1<\/span> prioritizes benefiting low- and moderate-income individuals, as established by the guidelines for the use of CDBG-DR funds from the Federal Housing Administration (HUD), in compliance with the objectives established by the federal government for these funds (National Objectives). This requirement stipulates that at least 51% of CDBG-DR funds must be used to benefit this population.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As required by HUD, the CDBG-DR funds allocated to the SBIA program address the urgent need to support and rebuild the island’s economy and businesses. The objective of this program is to assist small businesses affected by the 2017 hurricanes and support the development of ideas that arose from a need or were realized after the hurricanes. The SBIA program will support the development of new businesses on the island, create jobs, and grow the economy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Specific objectives<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Play an active role and have a positive impact on the long-term recovery and growth of Puerto Rico’s economy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Guide participants from the idea generation stage to the realization of their minimum viable product, all with a global and revolutionary mindset.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Turning an idea into reality and turning your idea into something tangible.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Ensure the participation of the public and private sectors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Motivate and empower participants to participate in Pre18, Parallel18, and other acceleration programs in Puerto Rico.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Develop a creative and innovative environment within the community that goes beyond technology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    4. Minimize the risk of failure for a new business by providing free and affordable access to education, training, and business resources.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      4. Fase1<\/span> Intensive Participants<\/span><\/h3>\n

      1. Participants must be available to participate in the incubator for the twelve (12) weeks (primarily Saturdays) of Fase1 Intensive.<\/li>\n
      2. Participants will be able to choose to participate in the Fase1 Intensive in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual). Some sessions will be exclusively in-person, and participation will be required .<\/li>\n
      3. When there is more than one owner or founder, a leader of the startup or idea must be identified who must participate in all sessions during the twelve (12) weeks of the Intensive incubator.<\/li>\n
      4. Up to two (2) people per selected startup or idea may be allowed to participate. The Fase1 team may authorize the participation of additional people at its discretion, in circumstances where reasonable need is demonstrated.<\/li>\n
      5. The participant(s) must be over eighteen (18) years of age. If the founding applicant is under eighteen (18) years of age, he\/she must be duly authorized in writing by his\/her parents and appear with them at the request of Fase1 as circumstances require.<\/li>\n
      6. Participants must be residents of Puerto Rico. If they have an established business, it must be located and registered in Puerto Rico.<\/li>\n
      7. Participants must be U.S. citizens or resident agents.<\/li>\n
      8. Participants must respond to all requests for information and documentation required by Fase1.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        5. Fase1<\/span><\/span> Intensive Program Activities<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

        [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Fase1<\/span> Intensive will <\/span>be held<\/span> over twelve (12) consecutive weeks, including workshops with local and international resources and mentors who will discuss the most relevant business topics for the incubator’s objectives. Some topics <\/span>include:<\/span> Client\/Consumer Definition, Idea Validation, Market Definition, Product Development, among others. All participants will be provided with different tools, workshops and activities that will help them in the development of their minimum viable product (MVP) or functional prototypes. Different topics will be provided <\/span>weekly<\/span> and work will be done on the development of the MVP.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Required activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Participants must attend the following required activities:<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. First Fase1 Intensive Welcome Session or Event ( Kickoff ): Participation in the Fase1 Intensive Welcome activity will be required for the leader and additional team member who will participate in the Program.<\/li>\n
        2. 2 rehearsal session . This session will take place prior to the Demo Day event at the Fase1 Intensive facilities or wherever the Fase1 team directs. At a minimum, the participant who will present the startup at Demo Day must participate in person.<\/li>\n
        3. Fase1 Intensive Demo Day ( Closing ): Participation in the Fase1 Intensive Demo Day will be required for the owner or leader of the participating startup.<\/li>\n
        4. At least the Project Leader\/Founder must be available to work on their Project\/Idea during the twelve (12) weeks (mainly Saturdays) of Fase1 Intensive, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some sessions will be offered during the week from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in a virtual format exclusively.<\/li>\n
        5. Any other sessions that the Fase1 team determines are required during the duration of the incubator.<\/li>\n
        6. A maximum of two (2) justified absences will be permitted during the duration of the Intensive incubator, with prior written notice to the Fase1 team . The program may request additional information when deemed necessary.
          \na. If the applicant does not participate in any of the Fase1 Intensive incubator activities or events without prior notification with the necessary justification, the Fase1 team may consider terminating their participation early or establishing corrective measures.
          \nb. Any exception or special permit will be evaluated and determined by the Program based on the individual conditions and circumstances of each case.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          6. Application for the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Fase1<\/span><\/span> Intensive Program<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

          [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Procedure:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Fase1<\/span><\/b> Intensive <\/span><\/b>will <\/span>be made<\/span> available to interested parties in the form of an online application at phase1.org. This application will collect demographic information in compliance with SBIA program requirements and will request information, requirements, and deliverables related to your project\/idea.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Each applicant must complete and submit all information and supporting documentation required in the application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in the application being denied.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Applicants will be able to access and submit their application to participate in the third generation (cohort) of <\/span>Fase1<\/span> Intensive <\/span>from February 3 (for the <\/span><\/b>Fase1<\/span><\/b> waitlist) or February 5 (for the <\/span><\/b>general public<\/span><\/b>) until March 28, 2025. <\/span><\/b>The application will be available <\/span>through<\/span> fase1.org.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Communication:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Communication regarding the opening of the call for <\/span>Fase1<\/span> Intensive will be made through a notice published on the <\/span>Fase1<\/span><\/b> Program website <\/span><\/b>( <\/span>www.fase1.org ) and through <\/span><\/a>Fase1<\/span><\/b> social platforms , press releases, emails, communications to organizations within the business ecosystem in Puerto Rico, among others.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Applicants with questions or need technical assistance with their application can contact the <\/span>Fase1<\/span> team at <\/span>fase1@prsciencetrust.org <\/span><\/a>. Multiple outreach events will also be held for interested parties. All events will <\/span>be publicized<\/span> and promoted through <\/span>Fase1<\/span>‘s social media channels.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Application methods:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Applicants may register only through the electronic platform registration system available on the <\/span>Fase1<\/span><\/b> Program website <\/span><\/b>( <\/span>www.fase1.org <\/span><\/a>).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The documents required to complete the application must be attached in the format requested. All applications must be received within the established call period. Any applications received after the established deadline will not <\/span>be reviewed<\/span> or considered.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Application limit:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

          An applicant may submit multiple applications for <\/span>different <\/span>startups or business ideas per call. If an applicant submits more than one application for different ideas or projects, <\/span>Fase1<\/span> may only select one of the applications to participate in the Intensive incubator. In this case, <\/span>Fase1<\/span> will select the application that best meets the Program’s evaluation and selection criteria.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          On the other hand, if an applicant or different members submit more than one application for the same startup, the Program will select the most recent and complete application for evaluation.           7. Evaluation and Selection Criteria for <\/span><\/span><\/span>Fase1<\/span><\/span> Intensive<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

          Applicants to the Fase1 Intensive Program must meet the following requirements:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          1. Be a resident of Puerto Rico.<\/span><\/li>\n
          2. Be of legal age, 18 years or older.<\/span><\/li>\n
          3. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.<\/span><\/li>\n
          4. Have menos de 5 employees\u00a0, applicable to established<\/span><\/li>\n
          5. Have completed at least three (3) Phase1 Lab educational modules \u2013 All founders or owners who will participate in the incubator must have completed this requirement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
